Dae gu chil gok church which was founded in 1904 is located in the new town for residential area. Also this area lies adjacent to the No. 5 national road of northern outskirts in Kyung sang buk do and extends to 220 thousand population according to statistics in 2005, which makes possible the growth of church. Therefore, there are at least 120 churches. Dae gu chil gok church where I am serving accounts for 2.2 thousand adults and a thousand children of which 40% is men believers. Compared to generally other churches whose men believers account for at most 30%, our church has quite many men believers. From this reason, our church needs to encourage activation of men believers in order to keep church extending. Despite not a few difficulties, That's why I chose to study this theme - activation of men mission club - which has been unpopular one for other pastors.
However, several problems should be solved to activate men believers' spiritual growth. Innovative methods should be developed for men believers to gather easily. Pastoral directions should focus on the spiritual growth of men believers to encourage them to devote themselves to church. If men believers activated themselves, church could revitalize itself too. A plenty of obstacles lie in the way of realizing such an ideality. Compared to women believers, men believers are likely not to apply themselves to church after enrolling in church. Besides, as almost all the men believers have their jobs on weekdays, they have no time to participate in church activities. Such situation makes them want to rest at home. So unless they have strong piety, they tend to take a rest at home and finally evade activities of church.
Then, when considering what the most urgent thing is so as to encourage men believers' spiritual growth, it is supposed to perform Bible study which is fundamental factor in faith. As it takes a long time for Bible study to make effective results, it needs to be continuous with much patience. In addition, it can be more successful if it is performed with one-day camp for spiritual reconstruction which needs relatively short time to take effects. Though having a lot of things to do other than those, I made a decision to supplement other articles one by one. To begin with, I looked into the history of men mission club theologically, biblically and church historically as well as history of our church, researching what the relation is between church and pastor directions. Besides, in order to establish activation of men believers' faith, I researched men believers' spirituality lives biblically, theologically, historically, biologically, socially, culturally and empirically. After I devised how to minister on the basis of theory of faith community, I presented the objective, directions, contents and ways on both bible study and camp specifically. As church can't be changed in a single day, there are several changes such as unfreezing, changing and refreezing stages. On unfreezing stages, I intended to present vision. While presenting vision, I reported it to Church Committee, explained it to Associations of men mission club and made sermons to whole believers in church consistently. On changing stage, it needs to make up of committee in which I made use of original men mission club. From March this year, I began to perform bible study for each men mission club on Sunday afternoons and camp was performed on 14th of September. On refreezing stage, I presented how men believers reacted and what change took place in church. I performed separately the evaluation procedures of bible study and camp which resulted in various evaluations. It was evaluated that bible study was successful but it was pointed out that not all of men mission clubs took part in bible study. The evaluation on the one-day camp had both negative and positive opinions. Some people evaluated that one-day camp was supposed to be a spiritual reconstruction program but it just turned to be a ordinary membership
The results comes out as below. First, all the members of men mission club determined to volunteerly in the dawn prayer service every first day per every month. Secondly I could learn to analyze all the problems, find out ideality and obstacle and present the alternative. Through such great experiences, it was proved possible to activate men believers' spiritual growth. At the same time, I could realize how difficult trying to intervention policy was. However, if it is performed continuously, certainly church revitalization through spiritual growth can be obtained.
