This is a study of an experienced preacher of 30 years facing the changing environment of the method of preaching, a paradigm shift, from the old homiletic to the new homiletic, from a modern, literate, static, linear, propositional, deductive style, to the post-modern, post-literate, inductive, narrative, and multi-media style. This study centers on one of the paradigm shifts that the new homiletic considers essential: the use of multi-media, the use of the visual and multi-sensory experiences in communication. This thesis is about show- and -tell sermons, the show-and-tell climate of our culture, and the preacher in his show- and-tell project with his congregation. The goal for this project was to employ multi¬media to preach the gospel using images, PowerPoint slides, and movie clips to reach into a new mission field of people who experience communication and receive information in the form of signs, symbols, and images from television and other mass-media The methods for gathering research were the Ethnographic Research Method for the congregation and a Pro-Active Research Method using the template of Anne B. Abernethy for interviews with other pastors relating to the subject and their preaching. This project is also about a congregation that is facing the issue of change, and its need to see a new mission field of people who must be brought to Christ. Findings from this study will reveal the congregation’s experience and current point of view in this transition. The conclusion is that both the congregation and the pastor are in the early awkward stages of change, but moving forward.
