Death and dying are powerful realities that all living things must face. In our current context, however, we are confronted by rampant individualism and consumerism that has resulted in the idolatry of life. This view of life is not realistic. The result is that people and systems, including church members and churches, are not prepared for this inevitable reality. As a result our attitude and behavior toward death and dying is displayed with increased anxiety and fear. Death and dying education, centered upon faith, can have an impact on these attitudes and behaviors. In this study a faithful, short-term death and dying curriculum is applied and measured to discover the impact of such a program in the life of a congregation. Using the Balanced Death Attitude Scale those enrolled in the course provide insight into the effect such a user-friendly course might have upon their lives and ministry. As we faithfully face our mortality we can approach this final reality with the understanding and hope that God is with us as we encounter the final healer.
