John 1:14 states “…the Word became flesh and dwelt among us...” This thesis is about the preached word coming alive and moving congregations to greater expressions of faith. But to come alive, the Word of God first must be alive in the preacher. Henry Mitchell, the great scholar of preaching stated that the Word must first move the preacher in order to move the people that hear it. To move the preacher, all obstacles to the flow of God and Spirit in the preacher must be removed so that the Word of God can be fully embodied to be alive in the moment of preaching. It’s what’s defined as preaching from the core. It’s a place within each preacher that is the depository about what the preacher believes about God. And it’s from this place that the text is preached to the extent that the people who hear are inspired and moved to action. To preach from the core is to first tap into and prepare the core. In this thesis, the author describes the idea of the core and the various methodologies including meditation and prayer that are utilized to reach and preach from the core resulting in passion, impact and transformation. After preparing the core, the preacher then prepares to speak from the core utilizing imagery and the intuitive-emotive approaches for delivery. So that at the moment of delivery, preaching without notes with clarity and impact results in the move of God within the preacher to a move of God’s people to action for God’s Kingdom.
