The funeral sermon or homily is a pivotal moment in the life of the church. It is also an important opportunity for the church to reach people. As more people are disconnected from the church and religion, funerals and memorials are significant and rare opportunities to engage, re-engage or reconcile people with the Christian story. I am a preacher whose primary profession is as a funeral director and secondary profession as a pulpit supply minister. This work will consist of funeral sermons preached at funeral home funerals where either the deceased and/or the mourners were unchurched. This work seeks to demonstrate how the sermons are evangelizing and reconciling moments.
