After serving at the Sarajevo church for several years, the realization arose that the discrepancy between what people knew in theory and how they lived may be attributed to their unattended brokenness and unaddressed issues. What started as an insurmountable obstacle – inability of a pastor to help the people she was called to serve - proved to be an opportunity for God to do what only God can do – bring about healing. The purpose of preaching has been a long debated subject, but this thesis suggests that each sermon should be a part of God’s salvific act – bringing wholeness and reconciliation. As the pastor experiences healing in the preparation for the sermon he/she is able to help facilitate the healing and transformation that the Holy Spirit wants to accomplish in each person.
