In 2012 a monumental milestone was reached in religious life in America. For the first time research showed that one-in-five Americans did not identify with any religion. Along with this milestone came a second, for the first time in over one hundred and fifty years, Protestants no longer make up the majority of the American population. While the number of people who identify as Christian has dipped to an all time low, the number of people who pray daily remains constant. As people of faith who believe that our faith is not only relevant in the twenty first century but essential to our lives, we are called to share the deep and abiding faith we experience. My colleague and I intend to address the growing population of nones, who are interested in faith and spirituality, by beginning a new worshiping community in Playa Vista, Los Angeles. This new community will be rooted in Reformed Christian Spirituality. We will form a group that meets regularly face to face to explore ways we connect to each other, our community and our world. The group will engage in regular volunteer activities, which grow out of the passions of group members. We intend to evaluate the work we do using interviews, observations and feedback from experts in the field.
