Most cross-cultural ministry writings are written from the point of view of white pastors preaching to congregations filled with people of color. This paper is written from another point of view-that of an African American preaching in a predominately white congregation. This narrative tells the stories of the background and history of a congregation, shows the evidence of racism in our society and in the church, and details preaching in this congregation. Told this way, the reader will see that the relationship developed between pastor and people was at times intentional, but definitely the work of the Holy Spirit. What binds pastor and people, their common heritage in Jesus Christ, is stronger than the racism that threatens to keep them apart. This relationship may serve as a model for other congregations and pastors who are similarly involved in such cross-cultural ministries.
