Cascade United Methodist Church serves a community where many persons suffer from economic disparity. The present outreach approach is transactional in nature. That is, the members give financially to assist those persons needing help with utilities, rent, and/or mortgage payments. This is helpful but only for short¬term relief. It is merely transactional in nature. There is a need to help suffering people in a way that is developmental in nature. This long-term developmental approach is called transformational outreach. The focus of my sermons and project in this third year of the ACTS D.Min. Program is to alter the paradigm for my church’s approach to outreach. The intended paradigm is more transformational outreach. Creating a sense of community is critical to this endeavor.
