This thesis project proposes that the mission of the Church to "proclaim and share Christ" is grounded in the Church's participation in the Eucharist and the "sending" that follows. This missionary incentive is supported by the preaching ministry of the Church. Three types of sermons are suggested as best suited to support this missionary incentive, including mystagogical preaching, apologetic preaching and missional preaching. The work of Craig A. Satterlee and Lester Ruth with mystagogical preaching, David Buttrick and Craig A Loscalzo with apologetic preaching and John A. Dally with missional preaching are used as primary resources. The intended purpose is that listeners to such sermons will develop a stronger connection between their participation at the Table and what it means to be sent for mission and ministry in the world. This project was completed as part of the Association of Chicago Theological Schools (ACTS) Doctor of Ministry in Preaching Program. Preaching projects were completed at Calvary Lutheran Church, Angola, Indiana and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lafayette, Indiana.
