Preaching can facilitate and encourage a more affective spirituality on the part ofthe more intellectual listener in his or her life. The pulpit is one place where spiritual direction can take place. The field of homiletics is enriched by the practices and content of the field of spiritual direction. I preached a ten part message series on "Finding God", which focused on helping people discover God in a variety of ways. My interviews showed that preaching was a factor in assisting intellectual Christians in moving toward experiencing God in a more affective way.
