There is a tendency to reflect on the Sabbath, or what we honor on Sunday, as a sole celebratory event devoid of a call to action, service, or accountability. In order for authentic transformation to occur in our lives, churches, and communities, some intentional action, has to occur after the Sabbath. My claim is that preaching can help congregants re-contextualize the sermon. This re-imagining helps congregants recognize the synergy between their Sunday and Monday selves which yields action. Through surveys, interviews, sermons, and information from multiple courses I will demonstrate how preaching helps hearers re-contextualize the sermon, and recognize the intersectionality between their humanity and spirituality, which enables and empowers them to re-act, and engage in praxis.
