During Jesus’ earthly ministry, he modeled for his disciples a manner of life that was accepting of people who were different from him, and he was willing to be changed by those interactions. In this way Jesus was “globally-minded.” This project explores ways in which preachers and congregations can follow Jesus to nurture and to be nurtured by one another toward global mindedness. Our challenge as Christians in the 21st century is to have Christ, rather than commerce or culture, be the primary influence in guiding our global mindedness. This project takes a set of goals that leaders in liberal arts education have articulated for the nurture of global citizenship and frames those goals theologically for preachers and for the church. This framing is then put in dialogue with the church, as one congregation, the Federated Church of Columbus, Nebraska, expresses how it has been nurtured in its global mindedness and how it seeks to continue to be nurtured on its journey as globally-minded Christians.
