This thesis deals with the issue of how to motivate a predominantly African American congregation to participate in world outreach and evangelization (missions). The means I undertook to do this was preaching sermons that linked the stories of oppressed women from scripture to victims of modern-day oppression, including African Americans. Preaching stories of oppressed women in the Bible can function as an impetus towards mission involvement because of the natural analogies between African Americans and oppressed people throughout the world. These stories can therefore serve as a unique bridge, linking the struggles of African Americans to other oppressed people around the world, fueling compassion and outreach from one oppressed group to others.
