This thesis makes evident how preaching in the genre of a parable combined with the Presbyterian Church (USA) Transformation process, causes contagious enthusiasm, which inspires fuller commitment to ministry and spiritual development. Through analysis of data gathered in focus groups, minutes from congregational meetings, increases in church membership and worship attendance, increases in participation in existing life of the congregation, and records ofnew lay-led ministry and mission projects, the author demonstrates how two congregations experienced transformation as a result of this method of preaching.
