The Old Testament is a crucial part of Christian Scripture and yet is infrequently preached in the Christian pulpit. If the Old Testament is not proclaimed in the act of Christian worship, preachers are missing amazing opportunities to transform their congregations. In day and age when biblical literacy is at an all time low, it becomes even more important that preachers proclaim the stories, theologies and understandings of the Old Testament. Within this paper the argument is made that the Old Testament should be preached regularly in the Christian pulpit. Two specific questions that are addressed during the course of this paper are: How does one preach the Old Testament? Does preaching the Old Testament impact peoples' spiritual journeys and strengthen their own Christian faith? These questions are answered by looking at three different approaches to preaching the Old Testament and how the minister and congregation are impacted by these approaches.
