In the context of an international, interdenominational, and multi-cultural congregation this project addresses the need for increased expressions of spiritual leadership through the design and implementation of processes to train, install, and integrate elected church council members for their church governance responsibilities. The spiritual leadership development materials emphasize deepening experiences with prayer and spiritual discernment so that church council discussions and decisions can be more clearly and strongly connected to the church's values and mission. Key steps in the project involve the creation and celebration of an installation service for church council members-elect. The project rests on the belief that governance of the church — as the body ofChrist — is qualitatively different from the management ofsecular organizations. A reframing change theory is employed to recreate a system that promotes and prizes expressions of spiritual leadership in its council members. One expected outcome is that council members will be better equipped and empowered to discharge their church governance responsibilities with the perspective and passion ofprayerful, theologically reflective, spiritual leaders.
