Especially in the New Testament, the church is like a living organism; it is the “Body of Christ.” The church, ekklesia, is the household of God who are called by God apart from the world and gathered for worship through their faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior and Lord. However, the values of the first generation Korean women differ drastically from that of 1.5 generation Korean-American women which leads to great tension between the two groups. First generation women are more Confucian-oriented than 1.5 generation women. The church is being faced with social and cultural conflicts between the first and 1.5 generation women. These conflicts hold much power within the church. How can we alleviate the negative results of these conflicts in a creative manner? The solution to this negative conflict would be to reconcile with one another in a biblical and theological manner. Theology is not simply a thought; however is the thought put into action. In Christ, God reconciled people to himself and gave them the ministry of reconciliation. The way people relate to others is a reflection of their relationship to God. The first and 1.5 generation women must under- stand the partnership (koinonia) of working together within the church. This thesis reveals how a serious intervention was effected to address the grievances. This included retreat, training workshop, preaching, Bible study, and dawn prayers meeting. The results of this thesis project indicate that once this Presbyterian Women worked through its conflicts and began to involve everyone on the decision making process; a lessening of tensions between two groups; and a better spirit of cooperation and support of one another. Above all, this thesis will entail a case study of removing the conflicts between two groups within a Korean-American immigrant church and how that will in turn revitalize the church.
