A church has two vital divisions; districts and cell groups. The cell groups have to follow the example of the early church that practiced the teaching of Jesus; love your neighbor as yourself This is the way to good church growth by the work of lay people in the church and local community. Therefore, the church needs to teach this clear vision to the lay people for revitalization of the church. This is the ultimate goal of MyungSung church. There are three obstacles for accomplishing this ultimate goal. The first obstacle is the passive attitude for serving the church. The second is a lack of trained workers to serve neighbors in the community. The third obstacle is the lack of professional education and training programs.
To overcome these obstacles, this writer is going to demonstrate a theological theory and suggestion based upon biblical, church historical, cultural, psychological, and its own experiences. The first step is to establish the vision consisting of an administration plan, sermon, seminar, Bible study, prayer meeting, and advertisement. In this step, it is necessary to establish the cell group leader’s committee for training them. The next step is to establish the program of the social service by a cell group consisting of having fellowship with the ‘small man’ in the community, making events for elderly people in the community, providing ‘Happy home schools’ and appointing ‘Loving Sunday’.
As the result of this program, lay people would realize the importance of neighbors and discover church growth naturally by their social service in spite of the few cell groups that are not actively involved. This writer insists that the revitalization of the church would be accomplished by the social service program of the church with practice of God’s Word in the local community. The purpose of this research is to achieve essential pastoral ministry for revitalizing the church, which is planning for growth in the local area by serving the community through cell groups.
