This thesis is based on a five part sermon series reflecting four different spiritual types as outlined by Holmes/Sager/Ware, plus a sermon designed to communicate to all four types in one sermon. The responses of my listeners showed that designing sermons according to the different spiritual types did make a difference. Using the Holmes/Sager/Ware model of spiritual types can enhance the effectiveness of preaching and lead to measurable spiritual growth on the part of both preacher and listener. The results of a first and second congregational religious life survey indicated measurable spiritual growth for all four spiritual types. The field of homiletics is enriched by an awareness of spiritual type.
